From Farmer Kyle...Wednesday, July 04, 2007I hope you went to the summer solstice it was fun; the kids caught about 5 fire flies. In the beginning they had a pot luck dinner. Next the people prayed to the north, south, east, and west. After the prayers they had a drumming circle. Everyone did a chant. It went like this "earth my body, water my blood, air my breath and fire my spirit." In the farm stand I like the size and the forest green color of the zucchini. The lettuce is becoming big in size. the scallions are starting to become big. The cucumbers are just starting to come out. The Swiss Chard is small but will get bigger by the end of the summer. The garlic scapes are curly. The basil is in big bunches and is good to freeze or dry. The kale and collards as well as the dandelion are very good. The broccoli is beginning to grow to normal size. Farmer Kyle I am a ten year old boy named Kyle. I like coming to the farm because I like to harvest vegetables. And I can do that in the 'pick your own field' (PYO fields). My favorite food we get from there is the edamame soybean. I also like to find the biggest of whatever my family can take from were they have all the vegetables they all ready picked for you. This year at home I am growing corn, pumpkins and goosa. Goosa is Mediterranean squash. It is light green and is grown at the farm, too, but we like lots of it. I am planting the corn because I like corn. I am growing the goosa because my Nana likes goosa. Last but not least I am growing pumpkin to make pumpkin pie and to carve for Halloween. This will be my 3rd summer going to the farm. On the summer solstice they have a pot luck dinner. One day two years ago they had a party where there were games and I won prizes and a T-shirt.
